A Place for All to Eat, Play, Pour & Drink
Columbus-based World of Beer franchisees Darren Greene and Mark Pottschmidt made a bold move this week – they decided to completely rebrand their Gateway venue into a new concept called “The District PourHouse.” Created for and customized TO the University District patron, the bar/restaurant will be a comfortable and affordable destination for students, baby boomers and all ages in between offering classic beers, Ohio Crafts, Global Crafts, and food that reminds you of home and good times.
Expected to open Thursday, August 16th as students return for this fall semester, the 4,500 square foot space will have a warm charm created by rough sawn millwork and wood tables with garage doors that open up onto the beer garden and patio area. The District PourHouse décor will also feature classic sports memorabilia, vintage University District photos and iconic vinyl album covers.
Who doesn’t love a hot dog? The District PourHouse will feature a made-to-order hot dog stand with all the fixin’s. Trendy biscuit bowls, known for their hangover-curing properties, are also expected to become a mainstay of the menu. There will be plenty of shareable menu items, like flatbreads, as well as delicious burgers and savory sandwiches.
Fans of old-school video games will find two areas of the bar devoted to retro fun: 1) A big-screen gaming lounge with an array of vintage and current console systems connected to a large display in the bar area allowing patrons to watch all the action as it happens; 2) An elevated “retro arcade” where guests can enjoy classics like Ms. Pac Man, Asteroids, Space Invaders, Frogger, Pinball, Foosball and more.
Over-sized flat screen televisions throughout the bar will be tuned to the top major sporting events of the day.
And that’s not all! There will be a vinyl record bar, offering “Open Vinyl Nights” during which customers can spin their favorite albums on The District turn-table in 15-minute increments.
Love Trivia? Never fear, WOB’s popular trivia nights will continue in this new iteration, bringing Sporkle to the venue every Monday and Thursday from 8-10p.m. Keep your trivia hats on, folks!
POUR & DRINK.
Behind the bar, guests will find The District PourHouse to be THE destination for the largest selection of affordable beers near campus. Nationally known brands such as Busch Light, Natural Light, Rolling Rock, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Hudepohl, Iron City, Old Style and other beloved labels will make it easy for any transplant to find his or her hometown favorite that Pop drank back-in-the-day. More than 50 drafts will be available on tap, including all the trendy Ohio and Global Craft beers.
Whether you’re stopping in for a quick game of Mario Kart or celebrating a birthday or after work happy hour, the District PourHouse has you covered! The cocktail menu will feature popular classics alongside creative new and locally-inspired concoctions, with fun takes on traditional cocktails, build-your-own mules to fit your budget/taste, fresh local cocktails “on draft”, infused and barrel aged spirits, and beer and wine-infused drinks. The District will have a beverage befitting any occasion or budget!
Finally, the huge beer garden and patio will serve as the premier gathering spot for fun in the University District, offering an engaging array of curated events from live music to movies, tailgates and Yappy Hours organized by Gateway management in collaboration with The District PourHouse.
“As Columbus grows and develops, so evolves the nightlife scene. We are so excited to offer this neighborhood pub that will not only be more approachable for the college student in terms of budget and offerings, but will also be a place that draws millennials, alumni and baby boomers, bringing even more energy to the Gateway – University District,” said Darren Greene, co-owner of The District PourHouse. “From grabbing a late night Cincy dog with buddies to watching the biggest game on television or trying to beat your best Asteroids score, The District PourHouse will be a place that everyone can kick back and have a great time.”
“While we loved having WOB at the Gateway, we are thrilled at ownership’s decision to re-brand to a new concept that’s more organic to the University District – even the name ties in nicely, ‘The District PourHouse’!” Christiana Moffa, Property Manager at the Gateway – University District, replied. “Due to our ever-increasing focus on finding and incorporating great local and/or Ohio-based tenants here at the Gateway, this re-brand aligns perfectly with our merchandising strategy. The University District and the Gateway strive to have the perfect mix of value-added Ohio-based and select national tenants, as guided by to the demands of the customer base and the needs of the greater neighborhood.”
